HOUSTON – Baker Hughes, a GE company (BHGE) has contracted Oceaneering International Inc. to supply subsea umbilical control systems for ONGC’s KG‑DWN 98/2 deepwater field development in the Bay of Bengal.

The contract award includes design and manufacture of 44 electro-hydraulic control umbilicals, totaling approximately 73 mi (118 km) in length, delivered on a combination of reels and carousels.  Manufacture of the umbilicals is scheduled to occur at the company’s facility in Rosyth, Scotland. It is expected to start in 3Q 2019 and be completed in 1Q 2021.

The subsea umbilical control systems will allow production from the U and R gas fields, and A, P, and M oil fields.

In March 2019, Oceaneering was awarded a separate contract to supply a subsea, steel tube control umbilical, and associated hardware to facilitate early gas delivery for the project, which is anticipated in 4Q 2019. Manufacture of the umbilical measuring 8.2 mi (13.2 km) and associated hardware is in progress at the company’s facility in Panama City, Florida.

In October 2018, ONGC awarded a consortium of BHGE, McDermott International, and L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering (LTHE) the subsea contract for its largest deepwater project.
