DELTA Fiber taps Nokia for 400G DWDM network

Aug. 26, 2021
DELTA Fiber will leverage Nokia’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch platforms to support deployment of a new DWDM optical transport network incorporating reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexers.

Nokia this month announced its selection by DELTA Fiber, one of the fastest growing fiber companies in the Netherlands, to provide a 400-Gbps optical transport network for both core and metro applications and to support DELTA Fiber’s fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) rollout in the Netherlands.

DELTA Fiber said it will leverage Nokia’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch platforms to support deployment of a new DWDM network, incorporating reconfigurable optical add-drop multiplexers.

DELTA Fiber said its core network build, currently underway, will support 19 sites, followed by the deployment of metro sites covering about 75 locations.

The deal is part of a broader collaboration to support DELTA Fiber’s expansion plans that includes Nokia supplying XGS-PON access network and customer premises equipment.

“With almost a doubling of traffic each year, we have put in place an aggressive goal to roll out FTTH over the next decade,” commented John Wittekamp, chief technology officer at DELTA Fiber. “The new network will address the requirements of exponential traffic growth without compromising reliability and resiliency of the network.”

Rafael de Fermin, senior vice president Europe, IP/Optics, at Nokia, concluded: “We’re excited to expand our optical relationship with DELTA Fiber and increase Nokia’s footprint overall as its multi-domain supplier. The new optical transport network is key to ensuring a high-performance experience for DELTA Fiber’s customers through its new access networks.”
