An electrical short in the power liftgate module could lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off.

Chrysler is recalling certain 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a power liftgate due to an electrical short that, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), could lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off.

The recall could potentially affect about 132,000 vehicles.

The remedy is currently under development, but for now owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 30, 2023.

Owners can contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. The number for this recall is 49A and supersedes recalls 15V-393 and 15V-826.
