Pace announces availability of new PFAS test method

Sept. 20, 2023
PFAS Test Method ASTM D8421/EPA 8327 can analyze for up to 44 PFAS compounds in ground and surface water, landfill leachate, soil, and more.

Pace Analytical Services, a provider of regulatory testing and analytical laboratory services, announced a new test method for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in aqueous and solid sample material.

“With the increasing focus on PFAS contamination of our environment, Pace is seeing greater demand than ever for reliable, fast testing services for complex matrices including soil, ground and surface water, landfill leachate, and more,” said Paul Jackson, Pace program manager, Environmental Compliance & Emerging Contaminants. “We are excited to be able to offer customers the ability to get results faster for important decision-making and/or to comply with increasing regulatory requirements.”

PFAS Test Method ASTM D8421/EPA 8327 uses isotope dilution and LC/MS/MS (Liquid Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry) to analyze for up to 44 PFAS compounds in both aqueous and solid sample material.

Pace says that the test method comes with multiple advantages:

  • Requires only a 5 mL sample, reducing waste
  • Isotope dilution calibration and quantification for greater reliability of results
  • Offers Method Detection Limits (MDLs) that meet the EPA’s proposed drinking water standards and Regional Screening Levels (RSLs)

“Pace is pleased to be able to cite either method ASTM D8421 or EPA 8327 due to the technical similarities of the methods. We combined them into the same service offering and can thus cite either method depending on our customer’s regulatory jurisdiction and data quality objectives,” said Nick Nigro, Pace PFAS product manager.
