Baker Hughes: Canada adds 10 rigs for the week

Canada has added 10 rigs for the week ended Feb. 2, according to Baker Hughes data. With 257 rigs running, the count is higher than the 240 units drilling this week a year ago. The number of oil-directed rigs in Canada increased by 10, bringing the count to 167 rigs for the week. Gas-directed rigs were unchanged at 90.

The US drilling rig count, meanwhile, was unchanged at 790 rigs working for the week. The count is down 259 units from the 1,049 rigs working this time a year ago.

At 767 rigs working, 1 fewer unit was drilling on land week-over-week. The number of offshore units remained increased by 2 to reach 23 units for the week. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters dropped by 1 to zero.

US oil-directed rigs gained 1 unit from last week to 676 units working, down from the 854 rigs drilling for oil this week a year ago. Gas-directed rigs were down a single unit to 111, and down from the 195 units drilling for gas a year ago.

Among the major oil and gas-producing states, New Mexico saw the largest increase in rigs with a 3-unit gain to reach 112. Alaska and Utah each saw a single unit increase to reach 10 and 6 rigs running, respectively.

Seven states were unchanged this week: Louisiana, 52; North Dakota, 52; Pennsylvania, 25; Wyoming, 23; Colorado, 22; California, 14; and Ohio, 11.

With 3 fewer units drilling week over week, Oklahoma saw the largest decrease in rigs to reach 50.

Texas and West Virginia each saw a single unit decrease to reach 394 and 14 rigs running, respectively.
