The active rig count in the US was up 3 units to 698 for the week ended Apr. 29, according to Baker Hughes data.
US oil-directed increased by 3 units to 552 for the week, up 210 year-over-year. Gas-directed rigs were unchanged at 144, up by 48 compared to the same week a year ago. Two rigs considered unclassified remained active during the week.
US land-based rigs rose 2 to 684. Horizontal rigs increased 4 to 643. Directional drilling rigs decreased by one to 30 for the week, while the vertical rig remained unchanged at 25. A single-unit increase brought the number of rigs offshore to 14.
New Mexico and Louisiana had the only rig increases in the major oil- and gas-producing states with a 2-unit increase each to reach 97 and 58 rigs working, respectively.
Texas and Utah each dropped 1 rig to end the week with 345 and 12 rigs running, respectively.
Canada’s rig count fell by 6 rigs to 95 but was up 44 from this time a year-ago. Gas-directed rigs and oil-directed rigs both decreased by 3, leaving 50 and 45 rigs running, respectively.
