US drilling activity decreased slightly for the week ended Aug. 12, Baker Hughes reported. With a 1-rig decrease, 763 rigs were working in the US, an increase of 262 from this time a year ago.

US drilling activity decreased slightly for the week ended Aug. 12, Baker Hughes reported. With a 1-rig decrease, 763 rigs were working in the US, an increase of 262 from this time a year ago.

Rigs drilling on land were down 4 units to 742 in operation. In inland waters, 1 additional rig was working for a total of 3 for the week. Two additional rigs were operating offshore for a total of 18 rigs running for the week.

Gas drilling decreased by a single rig to 160. Drilling for oil increased by 3 units to 601. Directional drilling increased by 2 units to 39 units working. Horizontal drilling decreased by 5 rigs to 693.

Louisiana’s rig count increased by 2 to 64 rigs running for the week. Oklahoma and West Virginia gained a single unit each to hit 65 and 13 rigs running this week. Texas and Alaska dropped 1 rig each to land at 372 and 9 units working for the week.

Canada’s weekly rig count decreased by 2 to 201, compared with 164 rigs working a year ago.
