The overall US rig count was unchanged at 251 rigs running according to Baker Hughes’ calculation of active US rigs during the week ended July 31.

With a count of 180, one fewer rig was drilling for oil compared with last week, while those rigs targeting natural gas gained one unit to reach 69.

The US rig count is down 691 rigs from last year’s count of 942, with oil rigs down 590 and gas rigs down 102.

The US offshore rig count was unchanged from last week at 12. This count is down 12 year-over-year. On land, the count also was unchanged at 239 units this week.

Three among the major oil and gas-producing states saw a single-unit increase week over week, namely Texas, 104; Oklahoma, 11, and North Dakota, 11.

Nine states were unchanged this week: Pennsylvania, 20; Ohio, 6; Colorado, 5; West Virginia, 5; California, 4; Alaska, 3; Wyoming, 1; Utah, 0; and Kansas, 0.

New Mexico was down 2 rigs to 49, while Louisiana’s rig count declined a single unit to 29 rigs running for the week.

In Canada, the overall rig count increased 3 units this week to 45. Rigs drilling for oil were up a single unit at 11 and those targeting also rose a single unit to 33. One rig was unclassified. The total count is down 92 units from this time a year ago when 137 rigs were working.
