Microchip protects military networks by combining timing and detection for GPS jamming and cyber attacks

If the system detects an anomaly, it sends an alarm and, if necessary, shifts SyncServer to alternative time sources or an internal oscillator.

CHANDLER, Ariz. – Microchip Technology Inc. in Chandler, Ariz., is integrating GPS jamming and spoofing detection with local RF data logging and analysis inside a time server for aerospace and defense applications.

Microchip is combining the company's BlueSky signal anomaly-detection software and SyncServer S600 series network time servers to help mission-critical networks continuously receive accurate timing information from network time servers in the presence of GPS jamming or cyber attacks.

The SyncServer S600 series Stratum 1 and intelligent jamming and spoofing detectors continuously monitor local GPS constellation health and examine GPS and local RF signal integrity to assure validity.

If the system detects an anomaly, it sends an alarm and, if necessary, shifts SyncServer to alternative time sources or an internal oscillator.

This protects ongoing timing outputs while ensuring predictable timing degradation to vital network and business operations in applications ranging from banking and stock trading to electric utilities and aerospace and defense.

The SyncServer BlueSky technology includes logging, charting, and measuring tools to characterize local GPS satellite signals and local RF events over time to correlate, troubleshoot, identify, and correct local anomalies from consumer electronics or nearby radio broadcasts.

The solution is optionally available through the SyncServer v4.1 software release that provides a selection of features found in Microchip's proven BlueSky GNSS Firewall solution for third-party GPS receivers and critical infrastructure.
