EFFECT Photonics to open U.S. facility near Boston

Netherlands-based EFFECT Photonics says it plans to open its first major facility in the U.S., near Boston, MA. The site will host a variety of functions for the company, which makes optical transceiver based on its proprietary DWDM system-on-chip technology (see “EFFECT Photonics offers 100G transceivers based on InP photonic integration” and “EFFECT Photonics completes Series C funding round”). In addition to furthering the company’s aspirations in the Americas, EFFECT Photonics believes the new facility will be an asset to European and Asian customers with operations in the region.

The facility, whose exact location EFFECT Photonics hasn’t released, will host engineering, product testing and verification, customer support, and marketing activities. Along these lines, the company expects to include an application lab and demonstration center on-site. EFFECT Photonics expects to open the facility in the fourth quarter of this year.

EFFECT Photonics says it chose the Boston area for its relative proximity to Europe, the abundance of technically skilled potential employees, and the number of colleges and universities in the area. The site will complement the company’s West Coast presence as well.
