4 Oct. 2021 -- British Army leaders are grappling with how to acquire necessary future technologies like hybrid power, how to spiral those technologies across equipment programs and how to cultivate soldier skills to use capabilities as they come online.

Driving innovation to achieve its goals, the army must identify technologies that likely will change the way the service operates and fights. This would be done by drawing on traditional and nontraditional suppliers.

Project Mercury, one part of the approach, is based on two key tenants: how to disperse combat power across the battlefield, and the increasing electrification of land vehicles.
